Katy Perry and Miranda Kerr rejected the “outdated narrative of ex-wives and new wives” with a joint appearance in Los Angeles this weekend.
The two women enjoyed an outing at the 2023 US G’Day Arts Gala, which was held at the Skirball Cultural Center on Saturday and honors Australians who are prominent in the US entertainment industry. Before the ceremony, the couple happily posed for photos together on the red carpet.
The friendship took many fans and the media by surprise, as 13-time Grammy nominee Perry is engaged to Kerr’s ex-husband Orlando Bloom.

Kerr, a model and native of Australia, split from Bloom in 2013 after about three years of marriage. The former couple have an 11-year-old son, Flynn. Kerr has been married to Snap Inc. co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, with whom she has two children, since 2017.
Perry and Bloom got engaged in 2019 and are parents to daughter Daisy Dove, who turned 2 last August.
Perry hinted at his seemingly unlikely bond with Kerr on Saturday as he presented his friend with the Excellence in the Arts Award at the annual event, now in its 20th year.
“Some of you may be confused as to why I’m introducing Miranda,” Perry told the crowd, according to People. “This doesn’t play into the outdated narrative of ex-wives and new wives.”

“And yes, that’s right, most of the media would love to see us fight in the mud, including Evan. [Spiegel], but we’re here to guide you through love, because Miranda is love,” he continued. “And as many of you know, love comes in many family iterations.”
Later in her speech, Perry said she was “so grateful for our modern blended family.”
“It’s like I’ve gained another sister, one that I usually agree with,” she said of Kerr.
Perry and Kerr have already expressed their mutual admiration in interviews and on social networks.

“I adore Katy and I feel so happy that Orlando has found someone who makes his heart so happy because at the end of the day, having a happy dad and a happy mom is the most important thing to Flynn.” Kerr said during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in 2020. “I’m so grateful that Orlando and Katy found each other, and I’m so grateful that I found my incredible husband.”
That respect extends to her ex-husband, Kerr later told the “Ladies First With Laura Brown” podcast.
“From the first day Orlando and I broke up, we were very close, very good friends,” she said. “I always wanted the best for him and he always wanted the best for me.”
