What is the difference between FEDRA and Fireflies?

Find out what each of these institutions represents to the universe of ‘The Last of Us’

‘The Last of Us’, the series that adapts the story of the game developed by Naughty Dog for the small screen, received its third episode last Sunday, the 29th, where the public can delve even deeper into the tragic trajectory of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and those around them.

In addition, with the help of the previous chapters, the plot presents a little more about FEDRA and the Vagalumes, two institutions that are widely mentioned during the plot, either through the events that move the characters, or even, through phrases and posters scattered throughout the city. city making it clear that the two will always be there.

But, do you know what each of them stands for and what their differences are? If the answer is negative, don’t worry, RECREIO explains everything below!

PHEDRA

FEDRA is the acronym for the Federal Disaster Response Agency, an institution that has existed since before the epidemic, but which assumes power and control in the United States after the outbreak caused by the mutation of the Cordyceps fungus.

Known for their authoritarian form of government, they work alongside the Department of Defense and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in an attempt to contain contamination and prevent human life from being completely extinct.

To do this, they gathered the healthy people left in the world in quarantine zones across the US, where the largest and best known are those in Boston and Seattle.

In addition, to remain within the protection zones and maintain order, it is necessary that people do not have symptoms of the infection, that is, it is strictly forbidden to go outside, and at any sign of contamination, the inhabitants are annihilated.

Even so, to keep the dictatorship in force, FEDRA instituted curfews, placed soldiers to patrol the streets night and day, in addition to promoting harsh punishments for those who did not follow the imposed rules, including condemnation to the death penalty.

FIREFLIES

The Fireflies are a group of rebel survivors who have bases around the US and act as resistance to the authoritarian government of FEDRA. This anti-government militia seeks to overthrow the military occupation of quarantine zones and restore society in a more democratic way.

In addition to being the voice of the opposition, they also act as agents in search of a cure for the Cordyceps infection, as they are seeking to develop a vaccine to prevent the proliferation of the fungus.

Because of this objective, Marlene, the leader of the Fireflies, gives Joel and Tess the mission to take Ellie to the Capitol, since the girl can contribute so that humanity can overcome the epidemic, since she was the only infected person who did not manifested symptoms.

Finally, it is worth remembering that the rebels have a slogan: “When you are lost in the dark, look for the light”, which appears spray-painted on the walls of several places, showing that there is someone fighting against FEDRA’s dominance and that there is still hope.
