Jim Jordan is checked in front of him in a combative interview on NBC News

Representative. Jim Giordano And ChuckTodd got into a sparring match on Sunday when the NBC News anchor called out the Ohio Republican for painting a misleading picture of how the former president Donald Trump and President Joe Biden they dealt with the discovery of confidential documents in their home.

During the tense interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Jordan repeatedly insisted the Justice Department was “armed” against Trump, citing the Aug. 8 FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lacul in Florida . Dozens of sensitive documents were recovered during that search, which was followed by months of requests for the documents to be returned.

“Keep talking about this raid on Donald Trump,” Todd retorted. “It took nine months from the initial action the archives took on the document request before they even turned it over to the Department of Justice.”

“The subpoena was issued 60 days before they actually served the subpoena. And more importantly, the only time the public knew about it was because Donald Trump told the public about it.”

“You’re looking at this as a picture of the FBI doing this, this and this within hours of each other, when in reality it’s been a year and a half since Donald Trump did not comply with any of the National Archives requests.” , he continued. “A year and a half. This is not some kind of proof that they were somehow armed and involved in politics.”

However, Jordan insisted there is a double standard between Trump and Biden. “They searched Trump’s house, they didn’t search Biden’s house,” he said.

“Because Biden didn’t contest a subpoena, Congressman,” Todd replied.

The FBI conducted a consensual search of Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware earlier this month and found six other documents with classified marks. The investigation follows revelations by Biden’s team that they discovered confidential documents in the Delaware president’s home and former office in Washington four times between November 2 and January 14.

Last week, Mike Pence’s lawyers revealed that classified documents were also found at the former vice president’s home in Indiana.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article said Jordan was interviewed on MSNBC. It was on NBC News.
