An irate Ye – formerly known as Kanye West – was caught on video apparently ripping a woman’s mobile phone out of her hands while filming it from inside his car and throwing it into the street.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to multiple publications that Ye was being investigated for the alleged assault after the office received a complaint about the confrontation on Friday.
Voi left the area before sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, TMZ reported.
The unidentified woman and West, who was traveling in her car, were both stopped at a traffic light in Newbury Park in Southern California when the rapper approached the woman’s vehicle.
“You will not meet me like this. If I say stop,” the newlywed (who married Yeezy designer Bianca Censori earlier this month) hears the woman through the car window.
“I wasn’t running,” he replies.
He continued to hold the phone up and take pictures of West as he demanded, “Stop with your cameras.”
“I know, but, Kanye, you’re a celebrity,” she said. Before she could finish her sentence, West ripped the phone from her hands and threw it into the street.
He then got back into his SUV and drove off, TMZ reported.
No one was injured in the confrontation and no arrests had been made as of Friday evening, The Ventura County Star reported.
Responses from followers on Twitter were divided, with some saying fans should leave him alone and others saying people are free to photograph whoever they want.
