If there’s one thing that gets everyone excited, it’s when great artists perform covers of other music stars — and in k-pop it would be no different. Whether it’s at year-end awards shows, television shows, concerts, or even special fan videos, it’s quite common for idols to perform songs by other groups or solo artists everywhere.

1. BLACKPINK — So Hot (Wonder Girls)
In 2017, BLACKPINK held a small tribute to the JYP Entertainment group Wonder Girls, performing a cover of the hit “So Hot”, with a remix made by the group’s producer and CEO of the company THE BLACKLABEL teddy park. The performance has a new rap, and was so well accepted by the public that the girls even performed it more than once, including at the beginning of their first world tour, the In Your Area Tour. 2. TXT — Replay (SHINee)
SHINee is one of the leading boy groups of the second generation of k-pop. They debuted in 2008 under SM Entertainment with the song Replay, which has become one of the biggest anthems in Korean music. In 2019, during the KBS Song Festival, TXT performed an amazing cover that both MOAs and Shawols fell in love with.
3. TWICE, GFRIEND, IOI and Red Velvet — Into the New World (Girls’ Generation)
Being another of the great debuts of k-pop, “Into the New World” was the debut song of Girls’ Generation, from SM Entertainment. In the year 2016, KBS Festival invited some of the biggest third generation girl groups to perform a tribute to SNSD. Amazing, huh?
4. Hyunjin (Stray Kids), Bomin (Golden Child), Daewhi (AB6IX) and Sanha (ASTRO) — Psycho (Red Velvet)
Festivals also give us incredible collaborations between members of different groups. For two years straight, hyunjin by Stray Kids, bomin from the Golden Child, Daewhi from AB6IX and sanha from ASTRO formed the unit “00s line”, a reference to the year in which they were all born. In 2020, the boys performed “Psycho”, one of the great hits of Red Velvet, a girl group from SM Entertainment. The performance was so well received that the video of the presentation already has more than 29 million views.
5. LOONA — Cherry Bomb (NCT 127)
Since their debut, LOONA, Blockberry Creative’s girl group, has performed numerous covers that have left the entire k-pop community in awe. One of them was NCT 127’s song “Cherry Bomb”, posted for the first time as a special video on the group’s channel. The cover was so successful that the girls have already performed it in several other places, including KCON:TACT 2020 SUMMER.
