In the video: Viktor & Rolf’s completely crazy parade of upside-down dresses

The haute couture collection presented in Paris by the Dutch duo started with a classic note. An amazing show for Instagram to let you do better.

And suddenly, in the middle of the priceless and artisan dresses of “la couture”, the crazy fantasy of Viktor & Rolf appears. Dutch designers Victor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, who have been showing their theatrical and spectacular work on the catwalk for thirty years, presented here their vision of a debutante ball. If the amount of applause and the many images circulating on Instagram are to be believed, the duo is neck and neck with the house of Schiaparelli (and its lion head dress worn by Kylie Jenner) to win the wow factor. With the difference that here Viktor & Rolf clothes did not cause any outrage.

Cupcake appeal and exaggeration

What do we see on this set? First a pile of ball gowns and layers of pastel colored tulle. Then the absurdity arises. Sugar glamor is exaggerated, unreal and unrepeatable, the classic cupcake-like dress is worn sideways, even upside down, covering the model’s face. It even goes so far as to copy the body of a model who then appears in a corset. The closed world of couture is invited to smile, even to laugh. For the duo, these conceptual clothes that defy gravity are also a way to express a metaphor for internet culture and the falsity it exudes. It “disconnects what we perceive on our phone screen or social networks and real life,” explained Rolf Snoeren. Featured in the front row, rapper Doja Cat, who is adept at dressing up, here wearing a bullfighter-looking costume, complete with a mustache and fake-lashed goatee, clearly didn’t miss a beat.
