Steven Spielberg looks back on an epic superhero film he thinks should have won an Oscar.
While discussing some of last year’s biggest blockbusters — “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Top Gun: Maverick” — which recently won Best Picture, the iconic director talked about a film he and -still wish he had received a nomination.
Following Tuesday’s announcement of the Oscar nominations, “The Fabelman familythe director shared in an interview with Deadline that he was “very encouraged by” those blockbusters getting the credit they deserve, but insisted that DC’s The Dark Knight “will definitely get a Best Picture nomination today.”
Pointing to the Academy’s 2020 decision to nominate a guaranteed 10 films each year as part of its Equity and Inclusion initiative, the 76-year-old star said: “It’s late for the film that should have been nominated for several years. after.”
“So for these two blockbusters to feature firmly in the top 10 is something we should all celebrate,” he added.

Joking with The Hollywood Reporter that his late parents “begged” him to bring “The Fabelmans,” a story based on his parents’ lives, to the big screen, Spielberg revealed that the “coming of age” project was something he “really wanted to tell.” “.
