Avatar hit movie screens at the end of 2022 and has already become a box office success in many parts of the world.
‘Avatar: The Path of Water’, film directed by the filmmakerJamesCameron, hit theaters in December 2022, and since then has been breaking box office records here in Brazil and also in the world. The plot, which has already had its continuation confirmed by the director and filmmaker, brings in its cast names like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver.
Thinking about the success that the franchise has achieved, RECREIO gathered five of the countless curiosities that the continuation of the movie ‘Avatar’, from 2009, has. Check out!
1. New Sequences
As I said JamesCamerondirector of the film, because the ‘Avatar’ sequels were so difficult to make, Cameron decided to divide the four scripts by the plot’s writing team. So, rickJaffa, Amandasilver, joshFriedman and ShaneSalernoobtained the document.
The director explained the reason for the action: “I think we met for seven months and we wrote all the scenes for all the movies together and I didn’t assign each screenwriter which movie they were going to work on until the last day. I knew that if I assigned to them their scripts in advance, they would hang up every time we talked about the other movies”.
In addition to ‘O Caminho da Água’, the other three sequels already scheduled are due to hit theaters in 2024, 2026 and 2028.
2. Idea regression
At first, James considered the idea of filming all plot sequences at a higher frame rate, but the action of doing this type of footage for the feature films was soon reconsidered.
Cameron then explained: “3D shows a window into reality; the higher frame rate takes the glass out of the window”. The industry standard is 24 fps and the highest frame rates are at least 48 fps, 60 fps or 120 fps. He later withdrew from that route, stating in an interview that, however innovative the format may be for cinema, moviegoers have always become accustomed to a specific way of seeing movies and altering that in any way would simply take audiences away from that experience”.
3. Underwater
As the filmmaker said, KateWinslet, actress of the saga, did all the underwater scenes alone. Even in the scenes that Kate performed underwater, she broke the time record in an underwater shoot that previously belonged to Tonecruisewhich was submerged for 6 minutes in the 2015 film ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’.
Kate even left the production of the plot surprised when he held his breath underwater for approximately seven minutes. To the Daily Mail, JonLandaudirector of the film, said: “Kate broke a freediving record among the cast. It was six minutes and 50 something – but for Kate we agreed to close at seven. She was phenomenal. Kate holds the record he set while still training. It managed to stay underwater for six minutes and 30 seconds.”
4. Sequence costs
The sequels to the ‘Avatar’ plot collectively cost more than $1 billion. Before the release of the new film in the saga, Cameron said the film would need to be “the third or fourth highest-grossing movie in movie history”.

5. Technologies used
