The Oscar-winning actor and the French film legend star together in Guy Ritchie’s short film, which premiered on Thursday, January 19, and aims to promote the French model of the Tank watch collection.
No one expected to see such a duo on the screen. In Cartier’s latest ad, designed to promote the 2023 release of the Tank Française watch, Catherine Deneuve, the “heroine of the passing of time,” crosses paths with Rami Malek. This short film is signed by Guy Ritchie (Snap:), opened Thursday, January 19, and was filmed in Paris, pays homage to cinema, creative freedom, and the “cultural geography highlighted in New Wave films.”
“Random Story”
“It’s a story of chance that focuses on the tricks that fate can play on you; The story of the karmic connection that seems to exist between some people, Cartier explained in a statement. On one side, Rami Malek, on the other, Catherine Deneuve. They meet several times on Alexander III Bridge, like two restless accomplices.
The actress appears younger there in scenes that echo her cult films such as Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) or even Vendome place (1998). Rami Malek thus meets the actress at various stages of her life and immortalises her, filming or painting her during each of their encounters. For this ad, Cartier wanted to bring together a film legend and a new talent, in the analogy of the new Tank Française, a revised version of the famous watch first released in 1996.
