Florence Pugh recently reflected on the backlash from her previous relationship with Zach Braff, telling Vogue that she thinks some people objected because Braff didn’t fit their idea of the type of person she should be with.
“I wasn’t in front of anybody,” Pugh told Vogue in a story published Thursday. “It’s just that people didn’t like it. They imagined me with someone younger and someone in blockbuster movies. I think the relationships of young people in Hollywood are so easily misrepresented because they add to the gossip sites.
Pugh, 26, and Braff, 47, have been criticized on social media throughout their romance, much of it focused on their 21-year age difference. Pugh and Braff met through friends and began dating in 2019 after working together on a short film for Adobe. They broke up in the summer of 2022.
The British actor – who has won acclaim for his performances in films such as ‘Midsommar’, ‘Little Women’ and ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ – told Vogue that celebrity relationships are ‘exciting to watch’ for women and that they inspired so much. a lot of obsession, especially since he was so secretive.
Pugh first confirmed her relationship with Braff in an Instagram comment in December 2019. She later described the online response as mostly “offensive and awful”. In 2021, Pugh said he was not here “to please people”.
Braff and Pugh, along with Braff’s friend Nick Cordero and his family, were self-isolating at Braff’s home in Los Angeles when COVID-19 first hit the country. Cordero eventually died of the virus, prompting Braff to make a film about his friend, starring Pugh.

Pugh told Vogue that Cordero “made everyone feel good” during the pandemic. Braff held a memorial in her garden, where Cynthia Erivo sang a tribute in Cordero’s honor. Braff’s film “A Good Person,” due out in March, was essentially written for Pugh.
“I think she’s one of the greatest actresses of her generation,” Braff told Vogue.
“It’s just magnetic,” he continued. “You can’t take your eyes off her. And it’s not just her beauty and it’s not just her acting ability, it’s that thing, that magical thing that transcends the screen, where anyone and everyone goes: I want to see whatever this person does.”
Pugh announced her split from Braff in August and told Harper’s Bazaar that they tried to work it out “without the world knowing, because it was a relationship that everyone has an opinion on.” The two remain friends, though — and will always have “One Good Person.”
