“The White Lotus” creator Mike White gave one of the funniest speeches of Tuesday night as his show won the Golden Globe for best limited series. In a feat of liquid courage, White admitted he was drunk, but he used to be funny.
“Oh my God. I’m still so in awe of Jennifer’s speech,” the showrunner said, appearing on the verge of tears, referring to “White Lotus” star Jennifer Coolidge’s earlier acceptance speech for best actress in -a limited series.
“Anyway, I wanted to give this speech in Italian, but I’m too drunk because there’s no food,” White said. “The food – when you arrived they said, ‘The food is finished, you can’t have it.’ It was just alcohol.
White then turned his attention to the streaming service that gave a home to “White Lotus” and its cast, which includes F. Murray Abraham, Aubrey Plaza and Michael Imperioli.
