Independent live-action shows another side of Princess Fiona not shown in the franchise films
One of the animated classics of the 2000s, ‘Shrek’, became one of the great franchises of DreamWorks, after presenting a fun and adventure-filled narrative for a fairy tale story totally out of the curve.
Currently, the title accumulates four original films and two spin-offs already released, since ‘Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order’, the second film of the orange pussy who wields swords opens this Thursday, 05, in national cinemas.
The reason for its success is, therefore, the film that hit the big screen in 2001 under the direction of the directors Vicky Jenson and Andrew Adamsonthe story of rescuing the young girl in danger, gained new comic and original elements seen throughout the journey that the ogre Shrek takes to finally rescue Princess Fiona from the tower that kept her trapped.
But, have you ever stopped to think what would happen if the funny events that surround the romance between Fiona and Shrek had taken a different direction, presenting a somewhat dark background?
the independent director Andy Chen not only thought about it, but also developed a short film addressing a new vision for the princess’s curse that has not yet been presented: what happens during Fiona’s transformation into an ogress?
Fiona: A Shrek Horror Film
Entitled ‘Fiona: A Shrek Horror Film’ (Fiona: A short horror film), the film that brings traces of terror and horror, was released on October 26, 2022 with the aim of explaining, in its little more than four minutes long, which is why the princess was locked in a tower surrounded by lava and protected by a dragon.
The short film, which has already accumulated almost 700,000 views on Youtube, first follows a knight going to meet the princess locked in a tower and finding chaos in the ward where she is. Upon spotting the knight, Fiona believes she will finally be saved, but within minutes, her painful transformation begins. Look!
Despite approaching the story somewhat differently than seen in theaters in 2001, the short film received positive comments, demonstrating that the public approved the dark version of Fiona.
We can see why Shrek was the only one who got it. Humans could even enter the castle and reach it, but the problem was not getting in, but getting out. Very well produced and written, well done,” wrote one YouTube user in English.
Another review highlights the achievements of the production. “This is honestly one of the most unique horror shorts I’ve seen and it makes so much sense for the Shrek world,” he described.
It is worth remembering that in the original plot, Fiona is the victim of a curse that turns her into an ogress at night, and for that reason, she ends up being held captive in a tower for threatening the peace of her kingdom. However, the spell could come to an end when she received true love’s kiss, freeing her and making Fiona just become a princess and no longer a ‘monster’.
