A few days after the end of December, the 44,000 tons of urea promised by the government to support farmers had not arrived.
Former head of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (midagri), Jenny Ocampo, assured two months ago that the fertilizer would be delivered by the end of December. However, Midagri would not be able to fully complete the purchase on the fourth acquisition attempt.
Recently, the new minister of the sector, Nelly Paredes, indicated that AgroRural is evaluating the “critical points” for the purchase of this fertilizer.
“We are in the fourth buying process (of urea). We currently have some critical points that we are evaluating based on usage and usage. international trade. We hope to get the outcome of this process soon and reach a good end to support the brethren in the countryside,” Paredes said at the Congressional Agrarian Commission.
The owner of Midagri noted that the urea was supposed to arrive for the 2022 agricultural campaign, but is now outdated. Despite this, he stated that the campaign was not lost.
“But I can assure you that this campaign is not lost. While it’s true, we’re not 100% what we could achieve, but we’re providing a supply of essentials,” he said.
Paredes did not specify which acquisition points are in dispute, but the deadline for ureaas previously announced, will end next week.
Recall, former Minister Jenny Ocampo assured that on November 18 a supply order was signed with the Paraguayan company Direcagro.
“Within 40 days there will be urea here in the country. We already have a valid contract, and now we have to make sure that on the 40th he will be in the port of Callao, and we will be able to distribute,” he said then.
It should be noted that the deadline set by DU 013-2022 for the purchase of fertilizers also expires on December 31.
