President of the Republic Dina Boluartewas sworn in in his office today in a ceremony that began around 1:30 p.m. Government Palace.
As part of said Cabinet, he swore Alex Alonso Contreras Miranda new minister of economy and finance.
Trajectory
Alex Contreras served in office Deputy Minister of Economy from August 2021. His appointment came when Pedro Franco Ballve was in charge of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).
Miranda Contreras He has more than 14 years of public administration experience in matters related to monetary statistics and economic activity, forecasting macroeconomic variables, modeling and developing macroeconomic models, and preparing monetary policy proposals.
By professional level, he is an engineer-economist from National Engineering University of Peru (UNI)and an MA in Political Economics from Williams College in the USA.
Prior to taking the position of Vice Minister, he served as Director General of the General Directorate of Macroeconomic Policy and Fiscal Decentralization IEF.
In addition, he developed most of his professional career in Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP)between 2007 and 2019, where he started working after successfully completing a summer course BCRP. In this institution, from 2016 to 2019, he held various positions as Head of the Department of Monetary and Financial Statistics.
Previously, from 2014 to 2016, he headed the Department of Economic Performance Indicators; Senior Monetary Policy, Macroeconomics and Monetary Specialist positions, among other positions.
In the academic field, he has published various articles in national and foreign journals on monetary policy, the financial system, banking regulation and the real sector of the economy. He has been a professor at several leading universities in the country in courses in macroeconomics, monetary theory, statistics and econometrics.
