Brussels is at war against single-use packaging

No more mini shampoo bottles or coffee mugs in hotels? The European Commission on Wednesday proposed drastic measures to reduce packaging waste by 15 percent by 2040, compared to 2018 levels.

About 40% of the plastic and half of the paper used in the EU today is for packaging, and their design often makes it difficult to reuse or recycle. Although recycling has increased significantly, the amount of packaging waste and the corresponding pollutant emissions are increasing dramatically. “If we do not change the current trends, the amount of plastic waste could increase by 46% by 2030.warns European Commissioner for Environment Virginius Sinkevičius.
