Austria will pay for Russian gas in rubles – VVS

The possibility of paying for gas in rubles is also being discussed in Germany. German energy concern Uniper allows this option.

Austria and the Austrian oil and gas company OMV have accepted the terms of payment for Russian gas in rubles. This was stated by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, the BBC reported on Wednesday, April 27th.

According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin ensured the security of supplies.

In addition, according to the BBC, the possibility of paying for gas in rubles is being discussed in Germany – the German energy concern Uniper says they allow this option and are discussing it with the German authorities. The next payment from the company at the end of May.

Earlier in the morning, Russian Gazprom announced the cessation of gas supplies to Bulgaria and Poland, which refused to pay in rubles. In connection with this, Poland announced that it will no longer buy gas from the Russian Federation and is preparing for it for six years.

At the same time, data of European gas operators on Wednesday morning showed that gas supplies to Poland from Russia resumed after a brief delay.

Bulgarian Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov said that “Bulgaria’s gas warehouses will be able to provide domestic consumers after the cancellation of Russia’s supplies” within a month. He also stressed that Bulgaria had fully paid for gas supplies in April, and accused Gazprom of breaching the contract.
