The carriers are ending their strike in a week, what did the union say?

This morning Truckers called off the strike started a week ago, confirmed the Ministry of Transport.

They came to this conclusion after reaching agreements with the government at a meeting that lasted more than 15 hours as part of the military-technical cooperation.

“Dialogue is a success! Trade unions of freight carriers agreed this morning to cancel the strike after more than 15 hours of working meeting with the executive branch, at which a consensus was reached,” the MTS official account says.

General procedure for terminating a strike

Javier Corrales, a spokesman for the National Front of Heavy Transporters, called on all pickets set up across the country as part of the protest to resume their work in the face of a “truce accepted by the government.”

“We issue a general order to all our brothers throughout Peru to end the strike today. This gives the government a truce on the commitment we signed today, that if we do not fulfill it, we will resume the struggle measures,” he said.

At least 38 heavy haulers’ unions attended the meeting with the BTC that began on Monday.
Pickets were set up in Desaguadero to block the border between Peru and Bolivia, paralyzing 6,000 Bolivian units stranded on the highway.

What did the carriers require?

The union said it mainly reduces the impact of fuel prices. For this reason, they asked to link the structure of transportation costs for the determination of freight, cargo reservation, equal treatment in interprovincial transport, and the reform of the Land Transportation Administration of Persons, Goods and Goods (Sutran).

They also asked for an extension of the toll refund period and a refund of 70% of the selective consumption tax.

What caused the strike?

Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad lost before 25% production blueberries, mangoes, avocados and other export fruits due to the carriers’ strike, the Association of Exporters (ADEX) said.

For eggs, the Southern Poultry Association (avisur) reported that 30% of eggs produced could not be delivered to destinations in regions such as Ayacucho and Andahuaillas.
