Congress proposed to include more than 500 investments in the draft 2023 State Budget Law, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced (IEF).
The initiatives proposed by the legislators involve the execution of an amount close to S/8 billion and have already been evaluated by the ministry.
During his recent participation in the Congressional Budget Committee, the head IEFKurt Burneo noted that the MEF has already evaluated proposals made by more than 70 congressmen and provided technical responses.
Burneo argued that proposals for investments raised do not have adequate funding in the draft law submitted by the Government.
The Minister noted that more than 400 regulatory proposals were also considered. Of these, more than 200 relate to reward measures worth over S$9 billion.
In addition, another 100 proposals were put forward that imply other unbudgeted requirements, as well as requests for translations articles and/or budget changes.
Burneo notes that out of the total number of proposals submitted, only 10 proposals can be included in the bill.
“It needs to be clarified that the assessment made at various congressional inquiries and informal responses to committee advisers are part of the coordination and technical consultations. IEF to the Budget Commission,” the head of the IEF said.
It should be remembered that the Fiscal Year 2023 Public Sector Budget Bill must be approved by the end of November this month.
MEF still doesn’t make information transparent
As of 2020 IEF began to make the list of requests from congressmen transparent, but this year there is no information yet.
The RPP has contacted the MEF to see if the list of projects proposed by Congress will soon be published on its website, but it has not been confirmed if the list will be made public. At the end of this note, the ministry did not provide further details on this matter.
