This assistance will range from 10 to 45 euros, depending on the repaired equipment; for example, €10 will be given for a coffee machine repair, €15 for a dent and €25 for a washing machine, for laundry. The purpose: encourage households to keep their devices longer.
Due to the Law on Combating Waste for a Circular Economy (Agec) published in 2020, the creation of this device was delayed several times. “Today, 31 devices are affected, but the list will grow every year. The grant corresponds to 20% of the average repair price of each device“, explains Guillaume Duparay, development director of Ecosystem, a non-profit public interest company approved by the public authorities and partly responsible for the management of this renovation bonus.
Specifically, when paying for repairs, the bonus will be directly deducted from the consumer’s account. “The difference will be paid to the repairer within fifteen days“, the development director explains. Due to the collection of eco-investments, the two eco-organizations Ecosystem and Ecological will take care of the financed payment. This contribution is paid by manufacturers of electrical and electronic devices, but is then passed on to distributors and then to consumers.
All French are eligible provided that the device is no longer under warranty and that the consumer calls the repairer services labeled “QualiRepair:“. This certification is certified by an independent certification body such as Bureau Veritas or SGS, and its achievement depends on seven criteria, such as the specialist’s expertise and his focus on waste management.
Target 1,500 certified repairers by 2023
So far, it has acquired only 500 repairers, and the list of these specialists will be published on the Ecosystem website and on the label.QualiRepair:for the French to use it. “We aim to have 1,500 certified repairers by early 2023“, Guillaume Duparay insists, realizing the need to accelerate on this topic. All types of repairers are eligible, whether they are self-employed, tradesmen or industrial repairers.
The envelope allocated to the renovation bonus is €410 million from this year to 2027. There are now 10 million out-of-warranty repairs every year. With this bonus, it is planned to increase to 12 million by 2027, which is a 20 percent increase.
