Freeport LNG, the second-largest US LNG exporter, shut down in June after an explosion and fire that experts say were the result of human error, inadequate operating procedures and other factors.
Freeport LNG is said to have completed about 90% of the post-fire reconstruction work required to start operations, including commissioning all three liquefaction lines, two LNG storage tanks and a jetty. All work should be completed by the end of November.
The proposed restoration plan for the safe resumption of the original operations has been submitted to the relevant regulatory authorities for review and approval. If Freeport LNG meets regulatory requirements, it could begin production at the facility by mid-December.
Production is expected to reach approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day by January 2023 (14.4 million tons per year – ed.). Maximum production using both berths is expected to begin in March 2023.
Recall that in early September, the EU imported more than 40 billion cubic meters of gas from the United States in the form of LNG, which is almost twice the total of the previous year.
It was also reported that the share of Russian gas in EU imports fell four times – up to 9%. Now the main supplier is Norway.
