In an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Friday, former President Donald Trump refused to listen to a phone call from last year’s minority leader, Kevin McCarthy (California), saying he would force Trump to step down after of January. 6, 2021, Attack on the United States Capitol.
He called. I heard the call. I didn’t like the call, “Trump told White House magazine reporter Alex Lear at his location in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
“But as you know, it was almost immediately because he came here and we took a picture there,” he added, pointing to a room at his golf resort. “You know, very strong support.”
McCarthy posed with Trump on January 28, 2021 in Mar-a-Lago for a photo that was widely circulated and considered a sign of peace between the two men.
He added, “I think it’s a big compliment, to be honest,” McCarthy and other Republicans who first criticized him (including Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell) changed their minds.
“They realized they were wrong and supported me,” he added.
Trump insisted McCarthy did not force him to resign. He said McCarthy reconsidered “when he heard the facts” and fully supported him weeks after the phone call.
Asked if he would support McCarthy’s House Speaker if Republicans regained control of the House in November, Trump replied, “Well, I don’t know anyone else who has resisted and I think I had a good relationship. With him.”
He added: “I like it. And apart from this short time, I doubt I like it very much ”.
McCarthy denied A. on Thursday in reports in The New York Times. He said he told other lawmakers he was calling for Trump’s resignation in the days following the uprising in the U.S. Capitol. But the audio released by the Times proves he is not telling the truth.
“My only argument with him is I think [impeachment] “It’s going to pass and I would recommend they get off,” McCarthy said in a phone conversation with Republican leaders on Jan. 10, 2021.
In a new audio released Friday, McCarthy also claimed that Trump took some responsibility for the violent attack on the Capitol, led by his supporters, who thought they might fail to prove the Electoral Congress of College and will eventually cancel the election in 2020. McCarthy also said on the call: “I’m talking to this year.”
Trump denied the magazine that he claimed responsibility for the Jan. 6 attack, which began shortly after Trump told protesters to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell.”
“No, this is a lie. “I never took responsibility,” Trump said.
Later Friday, McCarthy said he supported his attack on the Times account, probably because he didn’t carry out his plan. The relationship between Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin is based on excerpts from their new book, “It Won’t Pass”.
“I didn’t ask the president to step down,” McCarthy said. “The book tried to say it. So no, I’m right in what I’m saying.”
When asked what he would say to voters who called him a liar, McCarthy said, “That’s not the case.”

Alex Burns responded to McCarthy’s claim that after lying about what the minority leader of the House said in a phone conversation, he now “says our book says what wasn’t said and denies it.”
The Times report did not say McCarthy was forcing Trump to resign, he was just thinking of doing so, and he did so in a phone conversation.
McCarthy lied in the first place and refused to tell people he would kick Trump
He said it – on tape
Now pretend our book says the unwritten and deny it
Here’s what @jmartNYT And in fact, I reported: https://t.co/qTtEgV91SZhttps://t.co/ACqAl1UNQ5
