Between March and September 2022, almost a quarter of electricity in the European Union was produced by solar and wind energy. This is stated in a study by Ember and E3G, published on Tuesday, October 18th.

According to the authors of the study, during this period, 24% of electricity in the EU was generated using wind and solar. Last year this number was 21%.
In total, 345 terawatt-hours of electricity were generated from these two renewable sources, an increase of 39 TWh compared to the same period in 2021.
Record levels were reached in 19 EU countries. Thus, in Germany since March, 104 TWh of electricity from the Sun and wind have been received, which is equivalent to about one third of the total electricity, they indicated. Also, the highest numbers were achieved in France (14%), Italy (20%), Poland (17%) and Spain (35%).

“Wind and solar are already helping Europeans… But the potential for the future is even greater,” said Chris Rosslow, senior analyst at Ember.
It was previously reported that Spain has launched Europe’s largest solar power plant. It is able to provide electricity to 335,000 homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 140,000 tons per year.
