The main EU assistance for Ukraine’s agricultural sector is the revision of export quotas and their maximum reduction, said Minister Mykola Solsky.
The European Union is actively assisting Ukraine. The Cabinet of Ministers expects that Ukrainian farmers, who face severe hardship due to the Russian aggression, will also receive assistance. This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky in an interview with the Italian edition Adnkronos, the press service of the department reported on Wednesday, April 20.
“The main assistance is the revision of export quotas and their maximum reduction – this is the most important support that the Ukrainian agricultural business expects from EU countries. In addition, we request to simplify conditions of transit to use the ports in the Baltic Sea and Romanian ports in the Black Sea “, – said the minister.
Solsky recalled that this year Ukraine was supposed to export 20 million tons of wheat from last year’s harvest to world markets, but this was difficult to do because the ports were blocked. On average, Ukraine exports more than 5 million tons of grain per month, in March – 1.4 million tons, including 200 thousand tons of food wheat.
“In the near future, the complexity of exports remains, which, obviously, will also affect the countries where the grain should be shipped,” Solsky added.
Last week, it was reported that Ukraine ended the sowing campaign by almost 15%. In all, nearly 2 million hectares of land have been sown. Because of the war, this year they plan to sow 20% less.
It was also reported that according to the results of March, Ukrainian agricultural exports dropped by more than half, but the actual figures were even worse.
