Yesterday in Kyiv, McDonald’s partially resumed work at new prices. In this regard, the Deputy Chairman of the Tax Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, calculated the current Big Mac index.
According to his calculations, today a Big Mac in Ukraine costs 101 UAH. At the time of the July index calculation, a Big Mac in the US cost $5.15. According to Big Mac prices, the official exchange rate should be UAH 19.6/USD. At the same time, the official NBU exchange rate is now UAH 36.6/USD.
“So, the hryvnia is undervalued by 46.4%. Somewhere between Turkey and the Philippines,” the people’s deputy said.
Recall that before the war, the Hryvnia dropped from eighth to sixth place in the ranking of the Big Mac. In January last year, the index was UAH 10.95, in July – 11.5, and in February 2022 it increased to UAH 11.88.
