Ukraine’s economic losses depend on the course of the war, Sergei Marchenko said.
As a result of the war unleashed by Russia, Ukraine’s losses could reach up to 50% of gross domestic product (GDP). This was stated by Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko in a telethon, RBC-Ukraine reports on Saturday, April 16th.
“There may be a loss of GDP from 30 to 50%, but it is too early to make such estimates. It all depends on the course of the war, and how it will affect the economic activity of business and citizens. If business can be fast to fit, if the war ends quickly with victory – this is one scenario, if it continues, it is another scenario, ”the minister said.
Marchenko added that in such assessments it is desirable to proceed from an optimistic scenario.
It will be recalled that in the first quarter of 2022, Ukraine’s GDP dropped by 16% compared to the same period last year. Those industries where remote employment is unlikely to be the hardest hit.
In turn, the National Bank predicts that the economy will collapse by at least a third by the end of 2022.
