The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) presented the Peru Momentum plan with measures to promote the economic growth Peru, which also announced actions to support vulnerable segments of the population.
Some of these measures include subsidies that the government will provide in the last months of 2022, including LPG coverage for domestic use, electricity tariffs and urban transportation.
First, the temporary extension of the residential liquefied gas subsidy, also known as gas ball. In other words, the validity of the increase in the voucher provided through the Fund for the Social Integration of Energy (FISE) will be extended.
This voucher for S/25, which is delivered consumers small resources, will be applied until December 31 of the current year to reduce the cost of gas cylinders.
“If some measures are not put in place, it will return to S/15 to S/20 on October 4, 2022,” the MEF points out, which also indicates that this expansion will cost S/18 million.
Another subsidy which will apply at a cost of S$150 million to electricity tariffs also intended for vulnerable households. This includes an advance of 3 months of Act 31429 benefits.
“The beneficiary group is expected to reach about 20 million people, equivalent to 5 million households,” according to information provided by MEF.
In addition, the MEF also announced that a subsidy will be provided urban transport for routes under concession and permitted for a period of three months.
This measure will be implemented in November with an investment of SGD 160 million and will reduce the cost of public transport round trips by 1c/s.
In terms of supporting vulnerable families, it was also announced that the S/270 food voucher will have improvements in the targeting strategy and will be implemented in November this year.
Overall, the MEF clarifies that the entire plan, including measures on private spending, unlocking public investment and restoring confidence will cost about 3 billion sols.
