In June, the export of hard coal, anthracite, as well as all types of solid fuels derived from coal was banned.
This decision was made in connection with the preparation for the heating season and the fight against the illegal export of coal, which can be used for burning thermal power plants during the heating season.
“State standards allow the use of coking coal as part of fuel blends for thermal power plants, thermal power plants and boiler houses. Thus, coking coal can be considered as components of the fuel balance for thermal generation in preparation for the autumn-winter period. 2022/2023,” the message said.
In this regard, the Cabinet of Ministers has set a quota for the export of coal at zero tons for 2022.
Due to the war, during the seven months of 2022, coal imports to Ukraine decreased by 2.7 times. At the end of July, Ukraine imported more than 4.3 million tons of coal, while for the whole of last year – more than 19.5 million tons.
