The Neckarwestheim and Isar 2 stations will be taken offline but will remain on standby. They are called in case of crisis.
German authorities intend to extend the operation of two of the last three nuclear power plants in the country until next spring due to a reduction in natural gas supplies from Russia. Der Spiegel reported this on Tuesday, September 6th.
According to sources in the German government, this proposal will be made by the Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, Robert Haback, writes Der Spiegel.
According to the plan, the last three nuclear power plants in Germany are to be shut down by the end of 2022 as part of the country’s plan to phase out nuclear energy. One of them, Emsland, will indeed be closed on schedule.
The other two nuclear power plants, Neckarwestheim and Isar 2, will be disconnected from the grid, but will remain on standby so they can be used in the event of a crisis.
It will be remembered that a month ago, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the closing of the last three nuclear power plants in Germany, planned for the end of 2022, had to be postponed.
