Gazprom has stopped operating the gas pipeline due to a “routine malfunction” that has not yet led to a shutdown of the gas pipeline, the German company said.
The oil leak cited by the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom cannot serve as a technical reason to terminate the operation of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline. This was stated by the German company Siemens Energy.
“As a turbine manufacturer, we can only say that such a conclusion (of Gazprom – ed.) does not constitute a technical reason for stopping work. Such leaks usually do not affect the operation of turbines and may be displaced,” the report said.
It states that troubleshooting such problems is “a routine operation within the framework of maintenance work.” In the past, the occurrence of such leaks did not lead to the cessation of operations, the statement emphasized.
Siemens Energy is not currently involved in the maintenance of Nord Stream 1, but is ready to take part in technical work, the German company added, noting that “there are enough additional turbines at the Portovaya compressor station to operate Nord Stream.”
Recall that after a three-day break for maintenance, gas pumping through Nord Stream did not resume on September 3, as originally planned. Gazprom cited an oil leak at the Portovaya compressor station as the reason.
After that, the European Commission called Gazprom an unreliable supplier, and Russia was accused of embezzlement because it did not fulfill contracts.
