The Cabinet of Ministers has set the task of pumping 19 billion cubic meters of gas for the winter, without additional imports this task will not be completed.
By the end of August, Ukraine had accumulated 13 billion cubic meters of gas, said the head of GTS Operator of Ukraine Serhiy Makogon in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, published on Wednesday, August 31.
“Today there are 13 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities. On October 15, according to forecast calculations, there will be approximately 14.4 billion cubic meters of gas. With such reserves, it is realistic to pass in a mild winter, because now gas consumption is significantly reduced,” he said.
At the same time, he noted that the military threat factor increases the risks of a sustained warming period, so additional imports would be appropriate.
“As a GTS operator, we can ensure that the transport routes for receiving gas from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary are ready to import in the amount of 54 million cubic meters per day. We hope that the colleagues from Naftogaz will be able to take advantage of these opportunities to buy gas,” said Makogon.
A month ago, Naftogaz said that Ukraine needs $8 billion to reach the 19 billion cubic meters of gas reserves set by the Cabinet of Ministers. But then a thousand cubic meters of gas cost less than a thousand dollars, and now – more than 2.8 thousand dollars.
The authorities expect that in the upcoming heating season, gas consumption will decrease by 39.7% (by 7.7 billion cubic meters) compared to last year, at 11.7 billion cubic meters. m.
