On-the-go breakfast vendors are key to Peruvian daily life, as a significant portion of the population consumes and feeds on their products before arriving at work. However, the industry is not going through the best moment and you no longer earn as before.
Egg bread is one of the products that the citizens of Peru buy the most, and the merchants make a good profit. That changed a lot in a month, as they went from earning at least 50 cents to earning 20 to 30 cents per item.
almost no profit
RPP News took to the streets to ask the same main characters. This was the case with Max Edile, a breakfast seller in the 15th quarter of Avenue Petit-Toire, in the district Lynx.
“You make almost nothing. Now I earn at least 20 or 30 cents. I used to make at least 50 cents,” the trader said.
A few weeks ago a man could buy three loaves with some accompaniment; Instead, you can now only buy two, or even one, because sellers have chosen their prices to make more profit.
“Before pandemic he even earned his 60 or 70 soles. Now he earns 30 or 40 soles for each product, because it is almost bread and bread. I sell legal prices, and the neighbor sells cheaper … where will she get her goods? added Max Edil.
Solutions?
For this reason, more and more sellers have decided to raise the price of their bread, but this is also not a solution, because they themselves indicate that every time they do this, their sales decrease, as consumers also decrease.
Likewise, some return to their regular prices even though profits are declining; therefore, they are waiting for the current economic situation in Peru to improve, and thus they can have higher incomes and have no problems in their homes.
