Economy Minister Kurt Burneo hinted that the government did not take into account the position Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) in some announced measures.
Burneo referred to the approval of the General Sales Tax (IGV) exemption for restaurants, which he disagreed with.
“The issue of reducing VAT to 8%, I think that this was not a very successful measure, I just came to cabinet and found him armed. I told the president and the prime minister what I think, but the case has already been launched, and this is not ideal, it cannot be that taxes are reduced just like that,” he said during the presentation of the Multi-Year Macroeconomic Forecast for 2023-2026.
About his tenure in the cabinet
The head of the MEF commented that he hopes that this will be the last time disagreements with the Cabinet of Ministers occur.
“I do not agree with such a measure, but I think that it will be the first and last, I do not think there will be more, because if there are still things that I do not agree with, then obviously It makes no sense for me to stay putbut we will fight for the prudent management of public finances,” the minister said.
However, after repeated consultations about his permanent tenure in the cabinet, Burneo clarified that he did not say he would leave the MEF if he was not looked after.
The Minister added that the powers Ministry of Economics they are clear and “they are non-negotiable. Responsibility for managing the economy passes through this ministry.”
Burneo also mentioned that the next economic recovery plan, which will be presented next week, will be agreed with the Council of Ministers.
