China will not help in this situation, as it itself is experiencing a shortage of this raw material, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
In Russia, a severe shortage of lithium raw materials is expected after major suppliers Chile and Argentina left the country’s market. This was stated by Vladislav Demidov, Deputy Head of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Interfax reports on Wednesday, April 13.
“There is no production of lithium raw materials in Russia, the raw materials come in the form of lithium carbonate from Chile, Argentina, China and Bolivia. Under current conditions, shipments from Chile and Argentina are suspended , the only chance to receive raw materials. the materials are from Bolivia, “he said.
Demidov stressed that China will not help in such a situation, as it itself is experiencing a shortage of this raw material.
“The problem with lithium is already huge, because if there is a refusal to supply raw materials from Bolivia, unfortunately, we will not be able to bring in lithium raw materials. We have processing capacities, but if there is none raw materials, there could be a huge problem in providing their own needs for lithium-ion batteries, ”the official admitted.
There is no industrial production of lithium in Russia. Lithium is processed by the Chemical and Metallurgical Plant in Krasnoyarsk, the Novosibirsk Plant of Chemical Concentrates (part of the Rosatom group) and TD Halmek LLC in the Tula Region.
On the eve it was reported that in Russia they expect a shortage of plumbing, construction chemicals, tools and engineering equipment. The reason for the impending shortage is EU sanctions, logistical difficulties and the worsening epidemic situation in China.
