Ukrainian consumer sentiment has grown

Ukrainian citizens have improved their assessment of their financial situation, intend to make large purchases and expect the economy to improve during the year.

In July, Ukraine recorded an increase in the consumer sentiment index by 1.1 points – up to 73.2. This is confirmed by the data of the monthly study Consumer sentiment in Ukraine for July 2022, published by Info Sapiens.

It was noted that Ukrainians have improved their assessment of their financial situation, intend to make large purchases and expect the economy to improve during the year.

At the same time, the indices of the personal financial situation and the expected economic development within five years decreased.

The indicator characterizing the state of the financial situation of Ukrainians – the index of the current situation – fell to 37.2, which is 1.1 points lower than the level of this indicator in June.

Parts of this index – the index of the current personal financial situation – decreased by 2.9 to 30.7, while the index of the suitability of large purchases increased by 0.8 to 43.8.

The index of economic expectations in July increased by 2.5 and 97.2 pp

The index of the expected dynamics of unemployment decreased by 4.3 and 133.3.

The inflation expectations index increased by 3.7 and is at 146.4. Ukrainians’ expectations for the hryvnia exchange rate worsened over the next three months: the index of devaluation expectations increased by 5.4 and stands at 157.5.

“The main indices stabilized in July and the statistics changed little compared to June 2022. The current position index significantly slowed down the rate of decline, and the economic expectations index even showed an upward trend. At the same time, unemployment, inflation and devaluation expectations worsen,” commented Info Sapiens analysts.

The study of consumer sentiment in Ukraine has been conducted by GfK Ukraine since June 2000, and since 2019 it has been conducted by Info Sapiens. The consumer sentiment index in Ukraine is determined based on a sample survey of households. 1,000 people aged 16 and older were surveyed. The sample was representative by gender and age, taking into account urban and rural population, as well as size of residence.
