Established in 2019, Tesla’s gigafactory in Shanghai is the automaker’s first gigafactory outside the US.
Tesla’s Shanghai plant produced 1 million cars in three years. This was announced by the company’s founder Elon Musk in Twitter.
“Congratulations to Giga Shanghai on making one million cars! Tesla has made over 3 million cars in total,” Musk tweeted.
Tesla’s gigafactory in Shanghai, established in 2019, is known as the automaker’s first such plant outside the United States.
The degree of localization of the plant’s production chain exceeds 95%, while 99.99% of the plant’s employees are Chinese, Xinhua wrote.
In January-June of this year, the Tesla gigafactory in Shanghai exported more than 97,000 vehicles. For comparison, in the same period last year, this number was almost 42 thousand.
Tesla shipped a record 77,938 vehicles to China in June, up 177% from a year earlier. In the first half of this year, Tesla’s Shanghai plant produced nearly 300,000 vehicles.
