He recalled that US president Donald Trump, about two weeks ago, encouraged European countries to stop purchasing energy from Russia and repeated his requests yesterday at the UN General Assembly.
“Trump is really right,” Von der Lyain said at a meeting with the American President yesterday.
To end the import of Russia’s oil, Brussels, according to him, aims to introduce roles in Hungary and Slovakia tools.
“We want to get rid of oil and gas remains from Russia to the European Union,” he said.
And to the journalist’s question, when buying oil could stop, Von Der Layen replied: “We want to do this earlier, before the end of the year. Currently, the penalties have been suggested, EU members should approve them.”

Trump also said he would force Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban to leave Russia’s oil.
In this regard, the Hungary Peter’s Foreign Affairs minister said that his country would not reject Russia’s oil despite Trump’s request.
In 2024, Russia’s oil supply to the EU fell from pre -war 26% of total oil imports to 3% as a result of the embargo introduced in December 2022. Only consumers were Hungary and Slovakia, which prohibit their exclusion due to replacement problems. After that, Hungary increased Russian oil component from 61% from 2021 to 86% in 2024, according to the Center for the Study of Energy and Clean Air. Slovakia’s hope remains almost 100%.
Russian gas supply to the EU reached nearly 55 billion cubic meters in 2024, which is almost three times lower than pre -war 2021.
