He recalled that the first ship to pass through the grain corridor was the Sierra Leone-flagged Razoni with 26,000 tons of maize.
“The corn is exported to North Africa. As part of the monitoring of our four-sided Joint Coordination Center, established in Istanbul, first of all, we are talking about the passage of the Bosphorus, then a free trajectory according to classical routes of related commercial vessels,” said Vysotsky.
According to him, the Joint Coordination Center closely monitors the ships, guaranteeing all moments of security.
“Today, there is confirmation of the technical readiness of about 15 ships, two have been finalized. Then there will be two-way traffic, including the approach of ships for loading,” the ministry said.
It is noted that at first grain crops will be exported: corn, wheat, barley, and then oilseeds and processed products. Each of the vessels can accommodate 10 to 60 thousand tons.
Vysotsky also said that the movement of cargo ships should be only during daylight hours. For safety, they were accompanied by an anti-mine swimming facility. There are no restrictions on the number of ships that can be boarded. However, there are applications submitted and an agreed schedule.
“Ukrainian farmers will receive proceeds from the sale of these products. Then they pay taxes to the state and local budgets, which greatly support Ukrainian communities, pay wages to their workers. We are talking about significant amounts, because 50 million tons of export agricultural products is estimated to be at least $15 billion” added the deputy minister.
As reported, Ukraine will send three ships with grain per day. In this trial mode, grain exports can reach 3 million tons per month within four to six weeks.
