The Budapest is organizing many contracts with other supplier in the west, but they are not ready to announce them.
Hungary has entered into an agreement for 10 years with the British shell in gas supplies. Bloomberg reported this on Tuesday, September 9.
It was noted that it was one of the first steps of Budapest to divert and reduce the reliance of Russian supplies against the EU grandfather’s background with the gradual denial of Russian energy bearers.
Currently, we are talking about the supply of 2 billion cubic gas meters of gas, which will be delivered for 10 years, beginning in 2026. It was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Siyari at the Galech Conference in Milan.
According to him, supplies will enter Hungary through the Czech Republic and Germany gas pipelines.
“We are organizing many contracts with other supplier in the west, but they are not ready to announce them,” Siyarteto said.
Currently, Hungary has a contract with the Russian Gazprom for a supply of 4.5 billion cubic gas meters of gas every year until 2036, which after 2022 will be supplemented by additional purchases.
Siyari also said that Hungary’s nuclear ambitions provide for the doubling of atomic capacities by entering two new reactors. This will reduce current gas import and significantly reduce pressure on fuel supplies, which will help the country independently cover 70% of electricity needs.
As you know, until the end of 2027, the European Union will completely prevent gas import from Russia. Hungary criticized this decision and requested compensation for efforts to change gas equipment. But now, it seems, Budapest has begun to take real steps to look for successors.
