The American company says that using artificial intelligence is a completely spontaneous service.
The Italian antimonopoly organ (AGCM) has begun an investigation into the meta due to the operation of artificial intelligence in WhatsApp Messenger. Italy suspects that Meta has abused along with its dominant position in the Messenger market, which has established the operation of artificial intelligence without a request for users’ permission, Euraactiv reports.
Employees of the Antimonopoly Department, accompanied by financial police specialists, held on Tuesday, July 29, an invasion of the Italy branch of the meta.
Meta representatives said the company “is fully cooperating with the Antimonopoly authority of Italy.”
“Providing free access to our artificial intelligence in WhatsApp provides millions of Italians the opportunity to use AI to a place they already know,” the company representative added.
Meta says the use of AI is a completely optional service, and the Italian Antimonopoly Authority has said that since March 2025, Meta AI has established its services “with the WhatsApp service without the prior request of users.”
The artificial intelligence service has fallen to close attention to some European countries.
Meta postponed the launch of artificial intelligence services after the Irish Data Protection Body raised data issues.
Remember that meta shareholders accuse the board of directors led by Mark Zuckerberg of CAuls Management, who, in their opinion, led to billions of fine fines for violating user confidentiality.
Meta refused to sign the EU training code with artificial intelligence
