To date, the losses of Ukrainian farmers due to the war are estimated at 4-6 billion dollars.
During the war, the agricultural sector of Ukraine received losses from 4 to 6 billion dollars. This was announced on Friday, July 29, by the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Victoria Mikhalchuk, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
The losses calculated for June include damage to infrastructure such as irrigation equipment, storage facilities, shipping and processing infrastructure, greenhouses, field crops, livestock.
Mikhalchuk said that this year Ukraine expects to harvest up to 51 million tons of grain.
“Because of the areas directly affected by the war, only 61 million tons of a total of 75 million storage facilities are physically accessible. 14% are damaged or destroyed, 10% are located in the territory occupied by Russia,” he said.
At the same time, 35% of available storage facilities remain full of 22 million tons of food, awaiting export.
The UN also reported that they are working with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on alternative ways to export grain.
“One of the alternative ways we currently support is exporting through Romania and helping the Izmail laboratory to increase its capacity so that certification can take place faster and, accordingly, the number of exports , possibly through these boundaries, is increasing,” Mikhalchuk said.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, in the coming days, they expect the continuation of the export of grain by sea. President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Chernomorsk today to inspect the preparations for it.
