For Russia, where grain is one of the major export articles, such a collapse is a serious punch to the economy.
In the first half of 2025, China reduced Russian wheat imports more than 15 times – from $ 38.9 million to $ 2.5 million. This has been proven by the data of the PRC’s Chief Customs administration.
In June, there were no supplies, while last year during this time the extraction was $ 6.4 million.
Russian wheat is significantly lower in the supply of supplies from other countries. In particular, China bought wheat from Canada $ 361.3 million, from Australia – $ 190.2 million, from Kazakhstan – by $ 5.8 million.
Also, in six months, Russian Barley exports to China has reduced – to $ 42.2 million against $ 100.1 million for the same period of 2024. In June, exports decreased more than 14 times – up to $ 743.6 thousand (last year – $ 10.6 million). For comparison: from Australia, China bought barley $ 927.3 million, from Canada – $ 195.9 million, from Argentina – of $ 93.1 million.
At the same time, Russian corn exporting in China has grown more than half from the beginning of the year – up to $ 49.4 million (last year – $ 19.9 million). In June, the supplies rose from $ 3.4 million to $ 19.7 million.
In early July, Russian experts predicted the worst period of grain exports from Russia for 17 years. According to the Institute of Foreign Market Conjuncture, in July the Russian Federation exported 2 million tons of wheat – almost half more years.
At the same time, the harvest also collapsed, in particular, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, until July 2, 3.8 million tons of grain were collected against 16.5 million last year. The reason is called “drought in the southern regions.”
Keep in mind that the manufacture of wheat in the Russian Federation has been reduced for the third year in succession. For the first time for many years, Russian risks are losing its leadership position in the world’s grain market.
