Defense and security spending continues to rise

Compared to May, in June state budget expenditures increased by 11.5%, including 5% for defense and security.

Because of the war with Russia, spending on defense, public order, security and the judiciary continues to grow in Ukraine, according to data from the National Bank.

So, in June, these expenditures increased by 5% compared to May – up to UAH 141.3 billion. At the same time, it is 6.3 times higher than in June last year.

In the general structure of the state budget, these expenditures in June reached 56.2% compared to 59.7% in May and 18.1% in June last year.

In particular, on June-22, the budget allocated UAH 97.7 billion for defense (0.3% more than in May and 11 times more than in June last year).

Spending on public order, security and judiciary in June reached UAH 43.6 billion, which is 17.3% more than in May and 3.2 times more than in June.

Overall, state budget expenditures in June amounted to UAH 251.3 billion, which is 11.5% more than in May and twice as high as last year.

Revenues in June amounted to UAH 107.1 billion, which was down by 0.3% on May this year, and by 7.5% on last June. At the same time, the share of grants in the income structure increased – UAH 38.12 billion in June compared to UAH 15.9 billion in May.

The remaining deficit in June was financed mainly due to the purchase of government bonds by the National Bank for UAH 125 billion, which provided internal financing of UAH 83.5 billion, and external financing – UAH 60.7 billion.

In total, the NBU “printed” 240 billion hryvnias during the five months of the war to finance the budget.
