Technology from China has promised a march of up to 3,000 km and charge in just 5 minutes.
Huawei has created a patent for a solid -state battery based on sulfides, capable of providing a stroke of up to 3,000 km and charging in just five minutes, Carnewschina reports.
According to the patent, the new battery architecture provides energy density from 400 to 500 W/kg, which is half or even three times exceeds the indicators of traditional lithium-ion batteries. The change of approach is the use of nitrogen alloying of the sulfide electrolyte, which should reduce the risk of bad reactions at the junction with lithium anode – a major problem that still prevents the commercialization of such batteries.
Experts are warning that the stated indicators have been theoretical to this day. A full implementation of such a battery will require infrastructure, which does not exist. However, the reality of Huawei’s participation in the career for the future of battery technologies has forced competitors from Japan and South Korea to express concerns about China’s rapid development.
Giant worlds, such as Toyota, Panasonic and Samsung, have invested in studies of solid batteries for over a decade. Toyota, in particular, in 2023 introduced a prototype with a potential supply of 1200 km and charged in 10 minutes, commercialization planning until 2028. But China quickly reduces the lag: annually, Chinese companies deliver more than 7,600 patents in this area – it’s 36.7% of global volume.
However, this technology now has the main problem- the cost of producing such batteries has reached $ 1100- $ 1,400 per kilowatt hour, which is too expensive for the mass market. But theoretical, if the technology becomes massive, then the cost will decrease dramatically.
We reminded, earlier reported that the flagship of the Electrician Toyota would receive Huawei and Xiaomi technologies.
