The company will maintain internal combustion engines after 2033 and change the approach for a more flexible approach.
Audi no longer plans to completely abandon the manufacture of cars with internal combustion engines in 2033, as previously announced. General Director Gernot Dolner announced this in an interview with Autocar.
Instead of switching to de -electric cars, the company will focus on a flexible multifaceted approach, depending on the development of the market.
“We launched from 2024 to 2026 a completely new line of models with hybrid ice and plugins, and it gives us flexibility for at least 7-10 years,” Dolner said. He also emphasized that the plans for the complete move to the electric cars were adopted by the previous leadership and will now be reviewed.
Among the future models, RS’s high -complement versions will remain – for example, the next Audi RS6 generation will receive a power plant. In addition, Audi’s participation in Formula 1, according to Dolner, can inspire the company to create new sports cars.
As for the possible return of R8 or TT models, the Audi leader mentioned: “We are considering all. We are car fans. Give yourself a chance to be surprised.”
At the same time, Audi does not plan to create its own similarity of small electric vehicles, however, the development of a separate A3 size model has been confirmed, which will be debuting by 2026 and will actually be the smallest electric car’s car.
Audi will also lead the development of new hardware and software platforms for large Volkswagen group models, including the SSP Universal Platform, which is expected in 2027–2028. Initially, the SSP was planned as an exclusive electric, but now it is adapted for hybrids with internal combustion engines.
We remind, earlier it was reported that he was on the first car of Chinese submarine Audi.
