YouTube has changed the internal policy of moderation of content, allowing you to leave a video that slightly violates platform rules if they are recognized as they are publicly interested. The New York Times reported that there was a reference to the company’s internal materials.
In the past, the video was removed if at least one -quarter of its content opposed the rules. Now the threshold has increased in half – moderators are recommended not to remove rollers if their total amount exceeds the potential risk of damage.
We talk about meetings of local authorities, election rallies, political debates, race discussions, gender. Earlier, including during the Coronavirus pandemia, YouTube also removed records of local meetings or discussions by politicians with scientists due to misinformation.
Unlike meta and X, YouTube does not report the softening of moderation. However, the new policy was included in the training materials for employees in December 2024.
It has been mentioned that the updated policies have already been carried out. In particular, a video with a false accusation of changes in genes due to the vaccination from Covid-19 was left on the platform due to the “news significance” and the mention of famous politicians. Another video with a derogatory statement about the transgender person was also not removed, as the violation was not considered systematic.
The policy also helps the platform to prevent criticism from politicians and activists who have failed because of Covid’s content of Covid’s content, the US president’s election of 2020 or Son Joe Biden’s case.
