Until the end of the year, Ukraine still has to pay about $1.5 billion, but creditors have agreed to a delay.
Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has paid $1.5 billion in foreign obligations, Oleg Ustenko, adviser to the president on economic issues, said on Monday, July 5.
“Since the beginning of the year, Ukraine has paid off about $1.5 billion of its external debt. At the end of the year, about $1.5 billion remains to be paid. That is, only about $3 billion. However, the war is prolonged. It will be strange to pay the external debt and at the same time ask allies and partners for help in providing and soft loans, “he said.
Recall that last week a group of Ukrainian creditors from the G7 countries and members of the Paris Club of creditors agreed to postpone the payment of principal and interest until the end of this year, and also give the opportunity to extend the postponement for another year – until 2024.
According to the Ministry of Finance, this will give Ukraine the opportunity to use the saved five billion dollars for urgent needs.
