Gas reserves in underground storage facilities at the beginning of June reached 6.8 billion cubic meters, storage facilities filled 22%.
In May, the volume of natural gas pumping in Ukraine’s underground storage facilities reached nearly 1.1 billion cubic meters, which is nearly 1.5 times more than May last year. This was confirmed by expro data on Monday, June 9.
“A significant increase in gas pumping volumes is associated with active preparation for the next heat period. Since Ukraine has emerged from the past OPP with a recordly low gas reserve in storages, there is a need to increase the tapestry,” the report said.
It is implied that it is possible to increase the amount of pumping at the cost of the imported resource, which costs about 45% of the total upholstery in May, or about 500 million cubic meters.
The rest is a Ukrainian booty gas. Ukraine gradually restored gas production after significant damage due to Russia’s massive flow in February-March, but has not yet returned to the January level.
It is said that gas reserves in underground storage facilities at the beginning of June reached 6.8 billion cubic meters, storage facilities filled 22%. Although the current reserve is still the lowest in the last 11 years, the LAG since last year has gradually decreased.
At the beginning of the heat period (November 1), Ukraine will need to accumulate at least 12.65 billion cubic meters of gas. However, for the stable winter passage under any conditions, the reserves should be higher, which will require increased gas imports, analysts emphasized.
Earlier in May it was reported that gas reserves in Ukraine fell to the lowest level over 11 years. This year’s upholstery season began later due to the cold weather-in the first half of April.
In early June, President Vladimir Zelensky admitted that due to the massive Russian attacks in Ukraine there was a gas shortage of a relatively large amount.
