The denial of a South Korean company from Russian metal is associated with the threat of collapse under a second penalty.

South Korea’s Samsung display company in 2024 stopped using gold, tungsten and tantalum of Russia’s origin. This is proven by the company’s reporting.

The document did not indicate data on the supply of these metals from Russia for 2022 and 2023, while in 2021 the company received raw materials from 11 Russian businesses.

In particular:

• Gold is provided by: Novosibirsk Affinage Plant, Uralelectromed, Moscow’s special powerful power, Kagottmet, prioksky factory plant and Nicholkovsky factory;

• Tantal – Solikamsk magnesium plant;

• Tolfram is a hydrometallurgist, the Unech factory and the Moliren Moliren plant.

Using metals:

• Tungsten – for metal cables inside the chip;

• Tantal – such a barrier between silicon and copper;

• Gold – for connecting with microcircuit crystals to housing.

The Samsung display is a subsidiary of Samsung Corporation, which makes displays for TVs, smartphones, laptops and other electronics. Its products are used not only by Samsung devices, but also by other manufacturers, in particular Apple, who also neglected Russian raw materials after the start of the Russian Federation invasion of Ukraine.

The decline in Russian metals is associated with the threat of falling under a second penalty, says Oleg Emeralds, Russian developers’ consortium director of data storage systems. At the same time, according to him, the South Korean company will still buy raw materials in Russia, but by mediators.

However, Russian media emphasizes that Samsung has refused Russian metals, and has not increased the supply chain through Asia. At the same time, it will not affect the company itself.

“For Russia, rather it means that South Korean companies do not plan to return to the Russian market in the near future and plan to have limited trade relations, that is, they are interested in selling finished products, but do not want to have close cooperation,” the source.

Earlier, the media suggested that South Korean companies were preparing to continue the business in the Russian Federation.
