The new European enterprise will simultaneously produce ATACMs, GMLRs, Hellfire, JAGM and PAC-3 missile.
The German defense concern Rheinmetall and the American Lockheed Martin Corporation will create a joint adventure for making missiles in Europe, including for the Patriot Air Defense System. This was announced the day before Hartpunkt.
It is indicated that the Rheinmetall plan to own 60% in a joint adventure, the creation process that should begin in the near future. The reason for this step is the limited investment capabilities in the United States that do not allow us to satisfy the growing demand in Europe.
“Sometimes you have to wait 10 years to get missiles from the United States – it’s too long,” said Rheinmetall CEO Arsin Papperger.
At the new European Center of Missile Perfection, simultaneous manufacture of ATACMs, GMLRs, Hellfire, JAGM and PAC-3 are planned. The capacities of up to 10 thousand missiles and the same number of missile engines per year are planned. Complete vertical production integration is provided, including the design of the experiment. Intellectual rights belong to the European side.
It is expected that making machines will start in 2026, and the missiles in 2027. 2028–2029 will be a period of active electric building. The total investment in the project can be up to 5 billion euros.
Rheinmetall also plans to move the ATACMS assembly line from the USA and attract its own components as much as possible. Demand for 600-800 ATACMs, 2500 GMLRS, 5000 Hellfire, 5200 JAGM and 250-300 PAC-3 are expected annually
Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin confirmed plans for the creation of the European Center for Rocket Perfection. At the same time, any cooperation will be carried out in collaboration with the United States and German governments.
Earlier it was learned that Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin signed a memorandum of understanding against the background of growing demand for European ammunition.
