The European Commission has offered steps in response to US imports for American imports worth nearly 100 billion euros.
The European Union has prepared a list of American goods that may fall under new roles in response to the US tariff policy. Politico writes about this on Thursday, May 8.
The European Commission has offered steps in response to US duties to nearly 100 billion euros of American imports. The list includes planes, cars, medical equipment, chemical and plastic, as well as a number of agricultural goods.
Bourbon and other strong drinks have also been restored to the list, although former wine -producing countries, such as France and Italy, have put pressure on the EC to exclude them from the list.
According to the publication, it is only part of a 200-page list of more than 4800 goods compiled by European officials. According to Eurostat, the importation of these goods in the EU in 2024 exceeded 109 billion euros. The largest part in this volume is occupied by aircraft – over 13 billion, then there are cars – 7 billion.
The EU also considers the possibility of limit exporting scrap metal and chemical products to 4.4 billion euros.
The list of EU’s new roles can still change – until June 10, companies and members of the EU country should provide reviews and arguments to exclude sensitive goods from the list.
Like, Brussels also plans to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization for the introduction of so-called duties to one another, as well as duties on cars and auto parts.
Remember, on April 2, US president Donald Trump introduced a minimum additional fee of 20% for almost all exports from the EU, but a week later it reduced to 10% by 90 days to provide time for dialogue. At the same time, the duties of 25% per iron, aluminum and cars from the EU remain strength.
For its part, the European Union suspended tariffs for American goods worth 21 billion euros. We are talking about Harley-Davidson motorcycles, meat and chicken clothing.
